Job Description Summary The Assistant Director of Residential Academic Initiatives and Engagement is a full-time, twelve-month, exempt position reporting to the Associate Director of Residence Life. The Assistant Director of Residential Academic Initiatives and Engagement works closely with other professionals in the administration and management of a comprehensive residence life and housing program that serves 4000 on-campus students. Has responsibility for general administration and assistance in the management of the residential academic initiatives, Faculty Fellows initiatives, Residential College initiatives, oversight and management of the residential Living and Learning Communities (LLCs), Theme Housing program and Residential Engagement Communities (RECs). Job Description Essential Functions: Academic and Theme Housing Engagement Initiatives-60% Through active and engaging campus partnerships, work to implement and support several multi-faceted and comprehensive living-learning programs that engage students in the intellectual life of the university; lead, counsel and form productive partnerships with students/student groups, faculty, and staff in exploring and proposing ideas for effective social, cultural and educational living-learning programs. Oversee and advise on all aspects of residential Living Learning Communities (LLCs), Theme/Interest Housing programs and Residential Engagement Communities (RECs), including stewardship and support of individual communities in meeting their espoused goals and learning outcomes and administrative oversight. Serves as the primary point of contact for parents, students, staff, and faculty about these communities. In conjunction with the Associate Director of Residence Life, will engage in the planning and implementation of a residential College model/initiative that creates a vibrant community enriched with faculty partnerships and initiatives. In conjunction with the Director of Residence Life, assist with the programmatic aspects of the Faculty Fellows Program, including its potential growth and expansion, crafting and distributing the Faculty Fellows monthly newsletter and active membership on the Faculty Fellows Advisory Board. Responsible for coordinating Faculty House Calls, In House Advising, and other residential academic-related events. Assist the Associate Director of Residence Life with the oversight and coordination of departmental educational initiatives in the halls. Maintains all related statistics and prepares reports and proposals as necessary. Supervision and Instruction-20% Supervise, train, and evaluate job performance of 2-3 full-time, live-in, master's level Community Directors who provide oversight to master's seeking Graduate Hall Directors. Provide direct supervision, training, and evaluation for Theme Program Assistants and Living Learning Community Advisers Serve as an instructor for CNS 353 - Resident Adviser for credit course Administrative-20% In conjunction with the Assistant Director of Conduct and Assessment and the Assistant Director of Housing Operations, coordinates the various residential academic engagement related assessment and research initiatives. Utilize assessment data to identify improvement opportunities, strategies to enhance the student experience, and guide ongoing program development Develop long-range strategic planning in conjunction with the appropriate staff, for all the residential academic/theme based communities Serves on a variety of committees, projects, and programs within the RLH office and University community. Fulfill central office duty on a rotating basis as assigned during the academic year and weekly duty during the summer months. Attend all Residence Life and Housing Central Office meetings as scheduled. Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Demonstrated ability in program development, management and assessment knowledge and skills. Demonstrated ability in staff supervision and development. Experience in planning and implementing meaningful learning experiences with faculty and students. Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of concepts of college student development. Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse campus community and foster inclusivity pertaining to diversity education. Ability to communicate with a variety of constituents, both verbally and in writing. Ability to articulate the role that residence halls play in supporting retention and the overall academic mission of the University. Ability to problem solve, critically think and analyze complex issues while effectively planning and organizing work. Ability to organize workflow and coordinate projects within office and with other departments. Ability to interpret policy and procedures established within the Office of Residence Life and Housing. Ability to work weekends and evenings as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree with concentration in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, Facilities Management, or related field A minimum of two to four years of full-time experience working in Housing and Residential Programs (Residence Life), Student Activities or other position working closely with students in a university setting Preferred Qualifications: Two years of previous graduate or professional supervisory experience in a university Housing and Residence Life program preferred.
