Overview The EHS Specialist is a key role at the Elkin site. A glass manufacturing plant with a high level of automation and advanced technology presents many levels of exciting challenges. For an experienced EHS professional, there is opportunity to help shape the culture, improvement in process and protocols, as well as engagement of team members with EHS. The incumbent will work closely with plant personnel and the Vitro EHS Director and Vitro/ and/or Regional EHS Manager, and is responsible for the development, implementation, and sustainability of EHS management systems and processes to prevent incidents, injuries, and illnesses, and to assure compliance with regulatory and Vitro EHS Requirements. Responsibilities Promotes the safety, health and welfare of all employees by developing, implementing, and sustaining safety, health, environmental and security processes which comply with Federal, State and Local governmental laws and Vitro EHS Requirements and policies. Assist in managing site EHS documentation to include program content and design, EHS data collection analysis, training documentation and scheduling.Conduct job hazard analysis and recommended corrective actions where EHS hazards exist. Assists supervisors and managers in the reporting and investigation of incidents (near misses, property damage events, spills/releases), and injuries/illness (First Aid cases and OSHA Recordable cases), and the implementation of corrective/prevention action(s).Reports work related injuries and illnesses to Vitro worker's compensation third party administrator and works with Vitro Corporate EHS and plant Human Resources to manage the claims consistent with Vitro worker's compensation policy. Perform safety engineering reviews on new and existing equipment/processes.Builds safety awareness through new hire EHS training, monthly or periodic EHS training, and other means of communication. Safety responsibilities also include implementation of the Vitro Health & Safety Management system, developing and implementing safety procedures, conducting safety and housekeeping inspections, and developing and maintaining the facility Emergency Response Plan. Responsible for leading the plant EHS Leadership Team. Health responsibilities include the administration and implementation of programs such as, but not limited to, OSHA Hazard Communication, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, and Industrial Hygiene Monitoring. Perform workplace ergonomic evaluations audits/inspections etc.Environmental responsibilities include promoting sustainability and environmental protection and facilitate projects to drive continual improvement. Ensure compliance with applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations, and facility specific permit requirements, as well as implementation, maintenance, and sustainability of the Vitro ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS). The incumbent is responsible for updating all pertinent ISO 14001/EMS documents, training according to these documents and being always audit ready. Also inclusive in this function are administration of the Plant's air operating permit, hazardous and universal waste programs, EPCRA reporting, storm water and wastewater permits/programs, and completing and filing reports required by Federal, State and Local regulations. Provide support to plant Energy Reduction activities.Assists facility Maintenance and Engineering with site security and maintaining an effective fire protection program by aiding in the training of the Emergency Response Team, participating in periodic fire drills and cooperating with insurance inspectors.The incumbent is responsible for review of all new equipment installations as part of the Vitro Investment Project Proposal (IPP) process.Other tasks and duties as needed to support the team. Qualifications Experience in a manufacturing environment requiredHigh personal interest and aptitude in health, safety, security and environmental areasKnowledge of and experience applying all legal environmental requirements, workers compensation programs and laws and OSHA standards3-5 years of experience in a similar role in a manufacturing operationIntermediate to advanced computer skills preferredAbility to interact with all levels of plant personnel, corporate officials, other Vitro/PGW plant EHS personnel, suppliers, contractors, government representatives and peers in the local community.
