General nursing skills - General ICU skills - Experience with heavy
cardiac diagnoses - Experience with hemodynamic monitoring devices
Description: New unit opening on February 3, 2026. Initially
opening as a high acuity PCU and will transition to ICU by the end
of 2026. The unit will have 10-12 beds. Minimum 2 years of ICU or
PCU experience is required, CVICU experience preferred. Starting at
the end of September 2026, ICU specific experience will be
required. Will accept first-time travelers for this position.
Patient types include heavy cardiac cases such as CHF,
cardiomyopathy, tamponade, shock, STEMI/NSTEMI, and post-cath
recovery. Common diagnoses also include dysrhythmias,
post-pacemaker/ablations, external/temporary pacers, post-CABG/open
hearts, heart transplants, and post-vascular surgeries. Patient
ratios will initially be 1:3-4 and will transition to 1:2-3 in the
ICU. Will care for stable patients with Impella devices, typically
waiting for transplants. Skills required include wound care,
dressing changes, defibrillation, EKG interpretation, post-arrest
management, cardioversions, and management of sheaths. Experience
with bipap/cpap/hi-flow oxygen, chest tubes, trachs, arterial
lines, and administration of various drips is essential. Will care
for vented patients once the unit transitions to ICU and will be
expected to manage fresh open heart surgeries. Highly preferred to
have experience with LVAD and post-cardiac transplant patients, but
training will be provided. No ECMO will be performed; IABPs will be
accepted once the unit transitions to ICU. Support within the
department will include a CNA, a charge nurse who does not take
patients, and managerial support available until midnight. A
phlebotomy team and a resource nurse will also be available for
support. Respiratory therapy will be on-site 24/7, as will
hospitalists, intensivists, and resident physicians. Remote
telemetry technicians will be accessible for direct RN
communication regarding issues. The electronic medical record
system used is EPIC, with Alaris for IV pumps and Omnicell for
medication dispensing. Floating to other units within the scope of
practice is possible. Self-scheduling will be implemented, with
staff signing up before travelers. Scrub color will be royal blue.
