competency Description: The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1:5.
Candidates should have a medical surgical background. Experience
with post-surgical patients is beneficial, particularly in
orthopedics. The facility has 355 beds and includes various
specialized centers. The emergency department has 32 beds, and
there is an inpatient rehab unit and surgical suite. A nursing
license from North Carolina or a compact license is required. Basic
Life Support certification is mandatory. The unit has an 18-bed
capacity. Patient ratios are typically 1:6. Equipment used includes
Baxter IV pumps, SCD machines, Kangaroo feeding pumps, and PCA
pumps. The electronic health record system in use is Cerner. The
patient population primarily consists of adults and geriatrics.
Common diagnoses/treatments include COPD exacerbation, GI bleed,
diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell
crisis, end-of-life care, falls, weakness, sepsis, and infection.
Candidates should be team players and strong patient advocates.
This is a busy floor, and the ability to keep up is necessary.
Required education includes either an associate or bachelor's
degree in nursing. Scrub color is flexible, but certain attire may
