Staff Counselor/Psychologist (Alcohol and Other Drug Specialist) *Priority consideration will be given to applications received by September 28, 2018.* Summary: This 12 month, full-time clinical staff member will be an integral part of supporting the University Counseling Center's mission to providing confidential counseling/therapy to graduate and undergraduate students of the Reynolda Campus; consultation to students, faculty, and staff; and outreach/prevention efforts to the WFU community.-- This staff member will play an integral part in the university's efforts to address alcohol and other drug (AOD) use and abuse in our population while also contributing as a strong generalist clinician.-- In addition to a portion of their caseload being allocated to alcohol/other drug assessment and brief follow-up to identified clients, this clinician has the opportunity to partner with the prevention and response efforts of the Office of Wellbeing, and be a campus leader and advocate for prevention and recovery in a higher education environment.-- This staff member will also have the opportunity to supervise masters and doctoral level trainees in the UCC's growing training program and provide training and consultation to staff members and trainees around AOD concerns and interventions. Essential Functions: Provides individual and group counseling/therapy to students at the University. Conducts triage assessment and intervention for urgent/walk-in appointments. Provides clinical supervision, consultation, and oversight to UCC graduate trainees in psychology and counseling. Provides clinical AOD assessment and as-needed brief follow-up for clients specifically referred to UCC for substance related incidents or concerns. Provides coordination for alcohol/other drug services within the UCC, while partnering with other campus AOD efforts. Works collaboratively with other university departments (e.g., Student Health Service, Dean of Students, Office of Wellbeing, etc.) to ensure delivery of effectively integrated professional services. Provides professional consultation to all members of the University community. Provides outreach, workshops, and training on various mental health and wellbeing topics as needed. Participates in relevant center, division, and university-wide committees related to alcohol and other drug abuse prevention and response. Provides after-hours on-call crisis counseling on a rotating basis. Keeps timely, accurate, and ethical records consistent with UCC policy. Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Graduate degree in a mental health profession (i.e., counseling, clinical/counseling psychology, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy) from an accredited graduate program. Licensed or license-eligible to independently practice as mental health professional in the state of North Carolina. Knowledge of and experience providing a broad range of psychotherapy and counseling methods within a time-limited scope of service. Knowledge, skill, and ability to work with students from a diversity of backgrounds and traditionally underrepresented populations. Passion for working with students from underrepresented groups and diverse backgrounds; and dedication to partnering with relevant campus advocates (Office of Diversity and Inclusion, LGBTQ Center, Women's Center, Magnolia Scholars, etc.) to improve mental health service provision. Specific expertise in clinical assessment of alcohol and other drug use and abuse. Experience with mental health provision in a college or university counseling center. Knowledge of and ability to use crisis intervention skills. Ability to consult and collaborate both within and outside the University. Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to keep good client records and use Titanium scheduler/database. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage confidential information. Adherence to APA/ACA/other mental health profession code of ethics. Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Doctorate in Psychology from an accredited graduate program. Understanding of AOD prevention and response efforts within a higher education community. Experience providing developmentally appropriate clinical supervision to graduate trainees in mental health fields. Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist (LCAS) in the state of North Carolina or ability to become licensed within six months of hire. ABOUT THE WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY COUNSELING CENTER Comprised of 10 licensed mental health professionals, two doctoral psychology interns, two masters counseling interns, and two administrative staff, the WFU Counseling Center (UCC) is positioned to provide excellent mental health care to our university community.-- The UCC serves our campus in four primary ways:-- clinical services to undergraduate and graduate students; consultation to all members of the community; training of future mental health professionals; and prevention-based outreach services.-- The UCC is particularly excited to expand its training program by welcoming our first cohort of psychology interns in July 2018, with plans to add a third intern to the 2019-2020 cohort. In addition to its oversight of campus psychiatry and the Safe Office, which provides sexual and relationship violence prevention and response, the UCC is known across the university for being highly collaborative with other areas and offices.-- UCC enjoys particularly close partnerships with the Student Health Service, Learning Assistance Center & Disability Services, Office of the Chaplain, Dean of Students, Residence Life & Housing, University Police, and the Office of Wellbeing. Our clinicians are encouraged to seek opportunities to be creative as they develop partnerships to broaden the impact of our focus on wellbeing.-- This includes opportunities to serve on interdisciplinary teams including the Eating Assessment Team, Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation Team, Alcohol and Other Drug Coalition, and Crisis Management Team. Professional staff are also supported as they seek out their own professional development and clinical trainings, most or all of which are often annually covered by the university.-- Service to the UCC via a role as an area coordinator (e.g., groups, eating disorders, marginalized populations, student athletes, outreach, etc.), as well as service to local and national organizations is encouraged.
