commensurate with experience PRN, twelve (12) hour day shifts in
the Laboratory. JOB SUMMARY: To perform independently, without
direct supervision, medical laboratory tests, procedures,
experiments, and analysis, to provide data for diagnosis,
treatment, and prevention of disease. Attend and participate in
hospital and laboratory compliance in-services. MINIMUM JOB
QUALIFICATIONS: Regulatory Requirements: Special Vocational
Preparation includes an occupationally significant combination of:
vocational education (from a medical technology program), on the
job training, continuing education in areas specific for this
laboratory, experience in less responsible jobs which lead to the
higher job serving in other jobs. Training must ensure that the
individual has: The skills required for proper specimen collection,
including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation or
fixation, processing or preparation. The skills required for
implementing all standard laboratory procedures. The skills
required for performing each test method and for proper instruments
use. The skills required for performing preventive maintenance,
troubleshooting, calibration procedures related to each test
performed. A working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
The skills required to implement the quality control policies and
procedures of the laboratory. An awareness of the factors that
influence test results. Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCA, ASMT)
or Medical Technologist (ASCP) or Medical Technologist (AMT, HEW)
or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT, ASCP, AMT) or Equivalent
certification with educational requirement described in the Federal
Register for supervising high complexity testing. If the Chief
Technologist does not qualify as a director, technical supervisor,
or is a doctor of medicine, the individual functioning as a general
supervisor must meet the following requirements for education and
experience: Have earned a doctoral, masters, or bachelors degree in
chemical physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or
medical terminology from an accredited institution and have at
least one year laboratory training or experience or both in high
complexity testing, or Have earned an associate degree in
laboratory science or medical laboratory from an accredited
institution, have at least 2 years laboratory training or
experience, or both Have education and training equivalent to(A) At
least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited
institution that, at a minimum, include either 24 semester hours of
medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of
science courses that include(i) Six semester hours of
chemistry;(ii) Six semester hours of biology; and(iii) Twelve
semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory
technology in any combination; and (B) Have laboratory training
that includes either of the following: (1) Completion of a clinical
laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES,
the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS. (This training
may be included in the 60 semester hours listed in paragraph
(b)(2)(ii)(A) of this section. (2) At least 3 months documented
laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual
performs high complexity testing. CPR certification (or eligible
for certification within the first 12 months of employment).
Eligible for MLT certification within the first 12 months of
employment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Performs only those tests that are
authorized by the laboratory director and require a degree of skill
commensurate with the individuals education, training, or
experience, and technical abilities. Tests performed in the
following areas: Hematology/Coagulation (45%), Urinalysis (10%),
Chemistry (30%), Blood Bank (5%), Serology (1%), Body Fluids (
Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples
are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Communicates
with customer service for any instrument that needs trouble
shooting problems and can document findings and schedule service.
Adheres to the laboratorys quality control policies, documents all
quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations
and maintenance performance. Demonstrates the capability to
identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or
reporting of test results and either must correct the problems
immediately or notify the lab manager, lab assistant manager or
pathologist. Documents all corrective action when test systems
deviate from the laboratorys established performance
specifications. Immediately recognizes and reports critical test
results, realizing any particulars normals related to age.
Documents reports and critical values called to on report in
Meditech 95%. Can accurately and efficiently carry out all
responsibilities described for the phlebotomist. Phlebotomy is the
responsibility of the Medical Laboratory Technician when the
regular phlebotomist is unable to obtain blood or if the
Phlebotomist is not present or needs assistance. Reviews annually
all laboratory policy and procedure manuals for revisions and
updates. Must sign procedure manual annually showing review.
Complies with the hospital-wide and lab specific policies on
Infection Control and safety regulations. Performs any and/or all
maintenance on instruments according to the manufacturers schedule
and instructions and/or according to laboratory policy. Ensure the
security of the departmental information at the end of each workday
to protect confidential information. Demonstrates a willingness to
learn new procedures or process by meeting goals from previous
evaluation. Can demonstrate multitasking by planning, processing
and/or prioritizing workload with accuracy with limited overtime.
Must be willing to receive all required vaccinations (i.e., flu
shot, etc.). All new employees working must be fully vaccinated as
