Telemetry and CPAP/BiPAP experience - Ability to interpret and
manage dysrhythmias Description: RTO after booking is not allowed.
Any call-offs or additional RTO on the unit could lead to a
cancellation and DNR. The target patient ratio is 1:4-5, with mixed
acuity including PCU and MS/Telemetry patients. In extreme
situations, the unit may go to a 1:6 ratio. Additional hours can be
offered as needed. The unit accepts contracts for 13 weeks. Weekend
requirements include four weekend shifts in six weeks, but staffing
needs may require more. The patient population includes COPD,
pneumonia, respiratory distress, and COVID-19 patients. The acuity
is on the higher end of a med-surg unit. The unit provides support
including a team lead present in a 3:1 model and additional
respiratory therapists. Nurses are limited to one ventilator
patient at a time. The unit comprises 48 beds, with a CNA to
patient ratio of 1:9-10. Common patient diagnoses include COPD
exacerbations, pneumonia, and acute respiratory failure. Support
resources available include an Admission/Discharge nurse, Assistant
Nurse Manager, Vascular Access Team, Rapid Response Team, and Code
Team. Experience with chest tubes and drips including dopamine and
heparin is preferred. Candidates must have a teamwork approach and
meet behavioral expectations in all interactions with patients and
staff. Adherence to the call-off policy is strongly enforced.
Candidates must be comfortable floating within and between units
based on the job description with no restrictions or special
requests. Candidates must work two out of three major holidays. No
RTO is allowed during the first week of the assignment due to
orientation. Reference checks are required before starting.
Candidates should be flexible to work in different units as needed.
Daily patient census is approximately 47, with interdisciplinary
support available. Patient age groups include adults and
geriatrics. Eligible candidates must complete all modules before
the start date. Travel pairs are allowed but must work on different
units. Fatigue policy limits travelers to five consecutive workdays
and no more than 60 hours in a week. Acceptable charting experience
includes familiarity with common electronic health records systems.
